The Yamaha SGs are essentially Les Paul clones with double-cutaways. They sound far closer to a LP than any PRS. They have the Gibsone scale length and layout, and were made FAR better than most of the Les Pauls of simialar vintage. Better and more and consistent construction and fretwork. (don't know about the stock pups). Yes Santana played one for a while and Dave Meniketti used to play one.
If you're looking at the Yamaha SG2000, you should also check out old Ibanez Artists. (seriously)
It's the same double-cutaway, Les Paul clone premise.
Note: The Yamaha and Ibanez came in both high and low-end models. Make sure you know which one you're looking at.
