Thats a shame. The Knack were a cool band 'Get The Knack' was a good record and I remember "My Sharona" being all over the radio when it came out.

The death of a contemporary always strikes a chord. Your music wasn't my style, but, millions of people disagreed with me and loved what you gave them. The fact that you gave music to people desiring music makes you "A number 1" in my book.
Rest in peace music maker. The product of your mind, creativity and talent will keep your remembrance a given.

Sorry to hear about this. That Knack record was a Great album...and it was HUGE. "My Sharona" was THE song of 1979! Whenever I think of "My Sharona", it brings back many fond memories of that summer....The summer before my senior year in high school. Times I'll never forget.
Thanks, Doug for the memories. RIP

I wonder if that record is still on the old juke box at my high school?
It sure got a workout back in those days-we probably wore out the grooves on a couple of copies that year.

It's a long shot, but i wouldn't be surprised. The school was already ancient (opened in 1926) and dilipadated when I was there('77-80) I remember we discovered several Ludwig marching drums under piles of lumber in the woodshop loft, these things were from the 30's and they were just junked. I would not be surprised to go back there now and find that jukebox in a storage room somewhere. Wouldn't that be crazy?

Can you imagine the time capsule potential?? If you do it, you must post an unabridged list of what's contained....

Now you've got me trying to remember what all was on that jukebox...seems like Hank Jr "Family Tradition" was a popular one, Parliment Funkadelic's "Flashlight" was in regular rotation, Aerosmith's "Walk this way" and Kansas "Dust in the wind" were daily plays....just thinking about it is giving me flashbacks...

[/quote] Well I guess we're WAY now, but those are interesting songs. PFunk's Flashlight was a very big deal to me. Pretty much anything they did was revered and honored and the song Dust In The Wind was something that always sent me bolting for a trash can to hurl into. Blegh! I thought it was so melodramatic and cheesy. I thought it was an intential garnering of misery and depression. Walk This Way could do no wrong because Aerosmith could do no wrong with me. Family Tradition is the only one that doesn't evoke a strong and immediate memory or reaction.

Is it wrong of me to think that instead of like a 21 gun salute, the funeral procession, should all go: MY, MY, MY, MY, WOOOOOO!

I just picked up the Getting The Knack DVD and it's a nice look into the band and how it all came together and eventually fell apart. And for the umpteenth time drugs rear their ugly head in another successful band. Some things never change. Having said that I loved the first two Knack albums and Doug's passing is indeed sad. R.I.P. Doug "an in-between age madness that you know you can't erase, 'til she's sitting on your face" oooh, that Doug!
