How many of you dino's own 7 strings, and if you do, who inspired you to get one?

Can you tell I've got GAS? I still want a Charvel too...

I find 6 strings more than enough to deal with, but if I were to get one it would be because of Jeff Loomis.

I have one.  I'd like to get a Carvin DC 747.

Petrucci/Dream Theater inspired me to get one.  Maybe a little MacAlpine too.

Everytime, Sancho? I found it difficult to finish it once. Bad editing BAD EDITING. Warrel being rather inconsistent with pitch control just made it worse for me. One of the better metal bands out there for me, but the DVD didn't live up to the expectations.

Damn... you've just made me check the internet too... and I've discovered they've released a lefty version of the Jeff Loomis signature. GAS strikes again.

I have three, a Carvin 727, a very good 7-string "beginner/get used to" guitar imo.
Light, easy to play, 24 frets and impeccable carvin craftmanship.
a Framus Camarillo Custom and a schecter Jeff Loomis.
All great guitars. And yes, the Jeff Loomis model´s great bang for the buck.

I actually wanted to get a seven string way before Vai made his Universe 7-string (yeah Ibanez made it for him).
I began tuning down (Black Sabbath´s fault, of course), and was annoyed that I couldn´t play with the same feeling and in the same tonal "region" I had on a regular tuned guitar.
The Universe were too expensive for years, but then I stumbled across the Carvin, and went for it. Figuring I could always sell it if it didn´t work out for me.
But, boy did it work out ?

I´ll never go back to six strings.
I still have my six strings for noodling in front of the TV, but for my band ?
7 string for ever. I don´t feel that 6 strings aren´t ENOUGH, for me it´s just the possibillty of having standard tuning along with a downtuned 7th string for heavy riffing.

I´m actually looking into getting an 8 string
(Ihsahn and Meshuggahs fault)

I like the DVD. It's an honest rendition of Nevermore live. But I agree, BAD EDITING!

I had a Universe when they were first released, I bought it because at the time I was playing in a Thrash band and my bass player had a 5 string so I figured it would work.
Loved the concept hated the guitar itself.
Because of the floating bridge I could never get the thing to stay in tune, the pickups were crap and no one made replacements yet and it was just butt ugly.
It got stolen along with a lot of my other gear when I lived in L.A. but I've never missed it.
I would love another one though, a few years ago I borrowed my buddy's Schecter California Custom Shop 7 string, that one had a fixed bridge and the strings went through the body like on an old (pre ernie ball) Music Man bass and that guitar was incredible.
If I got one now though I would go for the 8 string with a Low B and High A.
Don't know which brand I'd buy though.

A friend of mine who is going through financial troubles is offering me his Schecter Damien 7 string for roughly US$485, I'm really thinking about getting it... should I go for it or is it just a bad case of GAS?

Congrats thumbs up
If I were to buy a 7 string, it would be a Schecter. Best bang for the buck.
